ENGAGED!

My babe's section:

You are the greatest man alive!
And MY fiancé!
I'm so incredibly lucky to have you.

HOLY WOW!!!! I don't really know what to say, but it will come to me...

SO... The big news is...

JASON SHIACH ASKED ME TO MARRY HIM!

Can you all believe it? I was totally shocked! Way to catch me off guard you big lug! We were out at the lake last Friday the 22nd, to spend the weekend camping and celebrate Nadine's 19th. Most people just dropped their junk off and then headed back into town for a few hours, so there was Ben, My Big SweetHeart and I holding the fort. Jason and I went for a walk up the road shortly before he and Ben would have to leave to go to work. He was comparing our hand sizes and pointed out that the only thing on me bigger than him is my hips.
"Them's birthing hips!" I joked.
He said something to the effect that that's cool and all, "Not that I want you to start popping out kids right away or anything."
"Of course not," I laughed, but then he said,
"But maybe in a few years."
I was like, "Really?!" He always used to say he didn't want kids. So I was thrilled! He knows I dream of a big family, "but I thought you didn't want kids."
"Well life has a way of changing your perspective on certain things," he said and gave me a little squeeze to start me walking again.
When he said that I started thinking about how on this and similar occasions over the past few months I'd been going back and forth on my anti-marriage policy. See, when I didn't believe in marriage, I didn't believe in guys like Jason. I didn't know any man as good as he existed. Sure, I held onto those beliefs for a long time after we started dating, and it isn't like I think all my points are invalid now, I just didn't know him well enough yet.
So I replied, "Yeah, I've noticed that myself lately," and we walked quietly for a little while.
Pretty soon it was time to head back to camp, so that Jason and Ben wouldn't be late for work. Jason went down to our site. I was wandering around up in the little trees across the road from our camp for a bit when I saw Jason striding up toward me. I buried my face in a young poplar tree, trying to be silly, but instead of playing along he walked around it and stopped beside it, right in front of me. I looked up at him, "Uh, hi!"
"You know how I told you I was getting you a going away present?" he reminded me.
"Yeah," I rolled my eyes. I assumed he was spending way too much money on me, as usual.
"Well I have a question for you," he said, "and your answer will determine whether or not I give you your going away present."
The breeze ruffled his hair and I noticed some red highlights catching the bright rays of sun. "Okay," I smiled, thinking I was ready, but I was so wrong.
"So here goes," he took a deep breath and let it out quickly. Then he got down on one knee and knelt on the grass in front of me.
When he took both my hands in both of his, I was still oblivious. "What are you doing?" I asked. The thought never crossed my mind. I might have been thinking, "Is my fly undone?" except that the only thing on my mind, looking down into his familiar face was how good he looked.
He looked up into my eyes and said simply, "Shandi Jeanette Lindt," (he just barely stumbled over my middle name only slightly), "will you marry me?"
It was picture perfect, so romantic, so him.
"Are you serious?" I was incredulous.
He said, "Yes."
"You're asking me this? Right here? Right now?"
"Yeah." God he was gorgeous! I just had to stare at him for a while.
"I have to go to work," he broke the silence, "so you have a few hours to think -"
"I don't have to think about it!" I burst out, "Of course! Yes, I will!"
I hugged him to my chest and he stood up and kissed me. Then he started rubbing my ring finger with his thumb and told me about an engagement ring he'd bought, but I couldn't really listen. He'd just proposed to me for heaven's sake! The last thing on my mind was jewelry!
I was hanging on his arm for the last bit before they had to leave. Ben was already in the car and Jason gave me yet another hug and a kiss goodbye and then his eyes lit up and he said, "Can you believe we're engaged?!"
"Eeeek!" I shrieked! I never, ever thought I would hear that! But it feels so good! After they left, I was so excited I must have run around the field maybe twenty times! I just didn't know what to do with myself! I was about five minutes away from introducing myself to random campers at the end of the road, just so I could tell SOMEONE, when Tyler finally arrived late.
After that must have been the longest happy night of my life so far. I was ecstatic, but I just wanted to see him! I am still in awe. I can hardly believe it. If he can change his mind about having kids, and has the courage to say it out loud to me, I figure I can absolutely have the guts to marry the love of my life. He made me the happiest girl in the world just by asking!

So all of you be happy for me damnit because my life is on a sweet track!
